FAQs
Your Questions, Answered
Do you take my insurance?
We are out of network with insurance plans, so we do not bill your plan directly. Some plans reimburse part of the cost of out-of-network care, and your plan decides. We do not bill Medicare or Medicaid. How fees work explains the details.
What is a superbill, and can it be reimbursed?
A superbill is an itemized monthly receipt for the sessions you paid for, which you can send to your plan to ask for reimbursement. It carries a diagnosis code, which your plan will see. Your plan decides whether to reimburse, and we cannot promise it will.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written Good Faith Estimate of the cost of care before you start. We give you one in advance. It is an estimate and not a contract, and How fees work explains what to do if a bill is well above it.
How much does it cost and how do fees work?
Your fee is given to you in writing before your first session. A limited number of reduced-fee spots may be open, so ask when you write. How fees work on this site explains receipts, estimates and cancellations.
Can I use an HSA or FSA card?
Many clients pay with an HSA or FSA card. Your plan administrator can tell you what your account covers, and we can give you a receipt that shows what you paid.
What happens in the first session?
It is a conversation. We talk about what brought you to reach out, what you want from therapy and how sessions work, and you decide whether to continue. You do not have to share more than you are comfortable with. Your first session has its own page with more detail.
How often will we meet, and for how long?
Sessions are 50 minutes. Your counselor sets the pace with you, and you can change it when your needs change. We check in regularly about what is working.
Are you licensed where I live?
Candace Banks is licensed in Oregon. In-person sessions are at our Portland office, and video sessions are for clients who are located in Oregon at the time of the session.
What do I do in a crisis?
Call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, any time. In an emergency, call 911. Our office does not monitor messages around the clock, so please do not use the contact form for anything urgent.
What is confidential, and what are the limits?
What you share is private and kept in your record, which we share only as the law allows. The limits are immediate danger to you or someone else, suspected abuse or neglect of a child or a vulnerable adult, and a court order. We explain them in your first session.
Can you see my teen?
Our work is with adults. If you are asking about a teen, call us and we will explain Oregon's consent rules on the first call and help you find a counselor who sees teens.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for 24 hours' notice. A late cancellation may be charged, up to the fee for the session. We handle emergencies case by case.
Still Have Questions?
Send us a message and we will reply on business days. Your first session is a conversation, not a commitment.
